KALUK is a word-of-mouth marketing cooperative that serves as a voice for the community. KALUK was developed by and to create opportunities for youth with most of its member/owners 18 – 25 years old. As a cooperative, KALUK is owned and operated by its workers based on democratic principals.
What is Grassroots Marketing?
Grassroots marketing, sometimes known as guerrilla marketing, starts from the ground up. Instead of launching a message you hope will appeal to many people, you target your efforts to a small group and hope the group will spread your message to a much larger audience. Grassroots marketing often uses unconventional or nontraditional methods. Grassroots marketing often costs less than more conventional marketing efforts, but can produce big results.
What is a Worker Cooperative?
A worker cooperative is a business entity that is owned and controlled by the people who work in it. Worker cooperatives thrive in many industries and regions. Worker-Owned. Workers own the business together. They usually invest with a buy-in amount of money when they begin working.
On the Laura Flanders Show this week, Damayan Cleaning Cooperative, the first Filipina migrant worker-cooperative in the United States had a chance to tell their story. Comprised primarily of survivors of labor trafficking, these cooperative members have created dignified, democratic livelihoods for themselves by starting a cleaning cooperative.
Golden Steps is a unique worker-owned cooperative that provides private pay companionship and home care to elder New Yorkers who want to remain safe and independent at home. The mission of the cooperative is to offer dignified work conditions to the worker-owners – nine highly trained, immigrant caregivers. For more information visit goldensteps.coop.
Golden Steps is contracting a salesperson consultant to support the outreach efforts to potential referrers and thereby assure a consistent inflow of new clients.
Calling and visiting hospitals, rehab clinics, doctor’s offices to acquire client referrals for eldercare companion cooperative
Online marketing including setting up facebook ads, google adwords, responding to online inquiries on care.com
Outreaching to Golden Steps allies and contacts to acquire client referrals
Bringing new marketing ideas to the cooperative
Liaising with cooperative members and developers
Representing Golden Steps at industry events
Maintaining database of sales contacts
The right candidate will have
At least 3 years of marketing and sales experience
Exceptional networking and social skills
Knowledge of and contacts in home care industry, particularly private pay companion care
Passion for social justice mission and cooperative model
English proficiency, Spanish skills highly desirable
Good computer skills, experience using Microsoft Office Suite and internet marketing tool
The contract would be for a total of approx. 250 hours over the span of 6 months (7-10h per week). Hourly rate & commission is commensurate with experience. Consultant would be working as an independent contractor and will be responsible for all taxes and benefits.
